Hedgelaying @ The Donkey Sanctuary

Date: Thursday 5th of December 2019
Time: 10am - 4pm
Location: The Donkey Sanctuary

Event Description

Come join us on Thursday 5th December at The Donkey Sanctuary, helping to carry out conservation work on one of their Devon farms. The Donkey Sanctuary fields are a great habitat for greater horseshoe bats. The mix of hedges, fields and trees provide plenty of insect prey for the bats.

Hedgelaying is a great skill to learn. It is a traditional method of managing hedges to encourage denser growth which makes the hedge more resilient and stock-proof, while delivering benefits to wildlife too. Insects, birds, bats and dormice all depend on healthy hedgerows for shelter, nest sites, food and connectivity across the landscape.
