Hedge Laying @ The Donkey Sanctuary
Date: Wednesday 16th of January 2019Time: 10am - 4pmLocation: The Donkey Sanctuary
Come join us on Wednesday 16th January at The Donkey Sanctuary, helping to carry out conservation work on one of The Donkey Sanctuary’s Devon farms. The Donkey Sanctuary fields are a great habitat for greater horseshoe bats. The mix of hedges, fields and trees provide abundant insect prey for the bats.
Hedge laying is a great skill to learn – it is a traditional method of managing hedges to encourage denser growth which makes the hedge more resilient and stockproof, while delivering benefits to wildlife too. Insects, birds, bats and dormice all depend on healthy hedgerows for shelter, nest sites, food and connectivity across the landscape.
