Bats, Moths and Stargazing Event

Meet the creatures of the night at Sharpham! See bats, moths and stars (hopefully) on this very special event that awakens your senses to nature at night-time. For Adults and children of any age and experience looking to discover more about nocturnal wilderness and the night sky. Families with younger children are welcome to leave earlier than the official finish.
The Sharpham Estate beside the River Dart hosts various bats and moths, while the streetlamp-free dark skies are perfect for stargazing on a clear night.
You’ll also be able to visit a moth trap provided by the Devon Moth Group to see close-up how beautiful and diverse moths are, and discover more about their fascinating life-styles.
This packed event also includes – clouds permitting! – a tour of the night-sky, thanks to Dartmoor Skies. If it is cloudy, there will be a short introduction to astronomy with lots of hints and tips so that you can explore the sky for yourselves when you get home.

What should you bring?:
- Snack – bring a healthy snack if you get peckish along the way
- Good comfy shoes or wellies
- Paper and pen if you want to take notes
- Camera if you want to take pictures
- Bottle of water
- If you have your own bat detector do bring it along
